São Judas Tadeu

Piatã - BA

The dedication and love for coffee

The coffees from Fazenda São Judas Tadeu are considered among the best in Brazil due to the region where they are produced, the altitude, rainfall levels, favorable climate, but above all, the dedication and love for coffee.

Located in Chapada Diamantina, in the city of Piatã, BA, and owned by Antônio Rigno, a coffee producer for over 30 years, the region benefits from unique geographical conditions. Winter temperatures range from 2ºC to 18ºC, creating highly favorable conditions for producing high-quality coffee beans. Antônio focuses on sustainable coffee cultivation: he provides technical guidance to workers on the proper use of chemical pesticides and the correct disposal of packaging to avoid harming the environment, plants trees around the farm, and promotes employment and income generation for local families.

The coffee harvest is done manually, with most workers being women, known as "coffee pickers." The cherries are selectively picked in baskets twice a day and taken to the pulping machine. The drying process takes place on patios, where the beans are spread in layers of approximately four centimeters and turned multiple times a day. The dried coffee is then sorted into numbered lots and stored in warehouses under optimal environmental conditions for coffee preservation.

Great care is taken to produce high-quality coffee at Fazenda São Judas Tadeu, from proper soil preparation and seedling cultivation to processing. The farm has won several quality competitions, including the Bahia Coffee Quality Contest, the National Quality Contest by ABIC, and the BSCA contest, which is considered the world's most prestigious coffee competition. The recognition of its quality is a well-established reality.
